Perspectives on green building

THE GREEN BUILDING INDUSTRY IS NOW A GLOBAL PHENOMENON WITH A GLOBAL AGENDA, AND THE CONTRIBUTION THAT BUILDINGS MAKE TO POLLUTION IS BEING ADDRESSED AT LOCAL AND NATIONAL LEVELS IN COUNTRIES ALL AROUND THE WORLD…In a special section within this issue, we look at some of the forces leading this green building movement forward. Firstly (opposite, and to page 41) Lyn Corum interviews a pioneer of green building – David Gottfried – founder of the USGBC. Then we move over to Europe – and Hriday Malik touches on the EU's Energy Performance of Buildings Directive together with its implications (pages 42–47). And finally (pages 48–50), we turn our attention to the UK where the vision of a ‘whole house approach’ applied to developments like social housing seems to be gaining traction.
