Dyed polymeric films, prepared by a simple technique of casting aqueous solutions of poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA) containing 2,6 di-nitro phenol dye (2,6 DNP) have been investigated to be a useful dosimeter in the high dose applications. These flexible plastic films investigated to be dosimeters, studied in case of addition a chlorine containing substance; chloral hydrate. The useful dose range extends up to 100 kGy. On the other hand, these films bleached when exposed to gamma rays. The response of these film dosimeters depends on dye concentration; and the concentration of additive substance. The radiation chemical yield (G-value) calculated in presence and absence of different additives. The effects of temperature and relative humidity during irradiation as well as pre- and post-irradiation storage, on the response of the film examined.
