Fine-structure quantum method of electron impact broadening calculations for XUV lines in hot plasmas

Many atomic physics codes are now available to build synthetic line spectra of high temperature plasmas. They usually provide energy levels, radiative/autoionisation probability rates, and electron impact collision strengths. However, more information could be extracted, in particular electron impact line widths that are important for dense plasmas. We present such an extension implemented on well-known UCL code package, SUPERSTRUCTURE/DISWAV/JAJOM. Here the Baranger formulation for the line widths, rewritten by Seaton and formulated in for fine-structure states was used. The new code gives the different broadening contributions: excitation, de-excitation and “elastic”. As examples we present the electron line-broadening of the Ne-like Cu XX X-ray lasing line, 1s22s22p53s (3P1)-1s2s22p53p (1S0), and the Ne-like Al IV inner-shell absorption line, 1s22s22p6 (1S0)-1s2s22p63p (1P1). In the Al IV case these results emphasize the non-negligible contribution of the “elastic” process.
