Synthesis and characterization of novel fluorescent surfactants

A series of compounds IIIa and IIIb containing fluorescent group were designed, synthesized and characterized and their surface and fluorescence properties were measured. As the polarity of solvent increased, the absorption maxima (λmax) and the fluorescence maxima (λem) exhibited a red-shifted and decreased fluorescence emission, but showed no appreciable change with the increase of pH values. The IIIb liposome gave small particles with spherical structures about 20–50 nm in diameter as observed by transmission electron microscopy.
