Research on Li3V2(PO4)3/Li4Ti5O12/C composite cathode material for lithium ion batteries

Li3V2(PO4)3/Li4Ti5O12/C (LVP/LTO/C) composite has been synthesized via a sol–gel method and investigated by physical and electrochemical methods. In the range of 3.0–4.3 V, the LVP/LTO/C electrodes exhibit excellent cyclic performance. The discharge capacity reached 90.3 and 75.5 mAh g− 1 for discharge rate of 50 C when the charge rate was 5 and 25 C, respectively. The excellent rate capability and cyclic performance are attributed to the existence of the carbon with high electronic conductivity and LTO with high lithium ion diffusion coefficient.


► Li4Ti5O12 is firstly introduced into the Li3V2(PO4)3/C to form a new composite.
► Li4Ti5O12 has high lithium ion diffusion coefficient in the LVP/LTO/C composite.
► Li4Ti5O12 is beneficial to the rate capability of Li3V2(PO4)3/Li4Ti5O12/C composite.
► The Li3V2(PO4)3/Li4Ti5O12/C exhibits excellent electrochemical performance.
