B-doping makes the carbon nanocones sensitive towards NO molecules

► DFT results show that NO cannot be detected by pristine carbon nanocones (CNCs). ► Electronic properties of B-doped CNC get sensitive towards the NO molecule. ► B-doped CNC would be a potential candidate for NO molecule detection.
