Averaging in the three-particle Toda lattice with linear dashpots

A one-dimensional system of three particles connected by nonlinear springs with an exponential restoring force and linear dashpots is studied. With the aid of the canonical variables for the Toda lattice, averaged equations are derived for describing the slowly varying quantities of the system.
