Ultraslow bistable solitons in a cold medium

We show the formation of ultraslow bistable solitons in a lifetime broadened three-state atomic medium with strong field excitation. We demonstrate, both analytically and numerically, ultraslow bistable solitons with low peak intensity can exist under appropriate conditions. This work may provide new experimental evidence of multistability of light solitons.
