SUPERLUMI: A unique setup for luminescence spectroscopy with synchrotron radiation

Twenty-five years ago, the SUPERLUMI setup at HASYLAB went into operation. In the meantime, the setup is used as a facility by many groups from Europe. In the present paper, history, continuous improvements, performance and scientific output of SUPERLUMI are described.
