Diagnosis and Treatment of Dental Disease in Pet Rodents

Acquired dental disease is relatively common in pet rodents and is seen in many different presentations depending on species and type of teeth affected. The degree of disease severity will vary between individuals of the same and different species. A thorough understanding of the anatomy and physiology of rodent teeth and a complete workup are needed for proper diagnosis and prognosis. Treatment is aimed at restoration of the normal shape and function of the dental arcades. This article will highlight the differences between diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of dental disease in rabbits and pet rodent species.
