Les facteurs prédictifs de l'intention et de la consommation de tabac et d'alcool chez les étudiants de première année de formation en sciences de la santé

The consumption of licit psychoactive substances in university students is a global problem, which deserves to be studied in more depth. This predictive correlational study was carried out from November to December 2011 with 314 first year health sciences students at a private university in Beirut. Its aim was to identify, based on Ajzen's theory of planned behaviour, the predictive factors of the consumption of licit psychoactive substances (tobacco and alcohol) in university students. The results showed that the leading factors associated with the consumption of these substances are male gender, past experience of drinking alcohol, intention and attitude regarding smoking and drinking alcohol. The knowledge arising from this study will enable health promotion programmes aimed at university students to be developed in order to reduce the consumption of these substances as well as their negative consequences.
