Scanning electron microscopic investigations of the antenna of adult Scolopendra oraniensis (Lucas, 1846) show the presence of six types of cuticular sensilla: (1) numerous slender sensilla trichodea, terminal pores could not be documented, (2) small sensilla microtrichodea with terminal pore, (3) many slightly turned contorted sensilla with terminal pores, (4) multiporous sensilla basiconica at antennal articles 6–17, (5) hat-like sensilla with terminal pores, and (6) small sensory cones with terminal pores. Structure and distribution of antennal sensilla of S. oraniensis are compared with those of other chilopod species, especially with those of the scolopendromorph Cryptops hortensis (Cryptopidae) and possible functions of the antennal sensilla are discussed.
