Physiological and biological patterns of a highland and a coastal population of the European cherry fruit fly during diapause

▶ A highland and a coastal population of the European cherry fruit fly exhibit significant differences in diapause intensity in field conditions. ▶ Time to adult emergence in the laboratory is correlated with diapause termination and seems to proceed more rapidly in the coastal population. ▶ The coastal and the highland population manage their lipid and protein reserves similarly during the long pupal stage. Nevertheless, carbohydrate and glycogen contents fluctuate differently in the two populations.
