An efficient and simple method for the synthesis of biologically active 14-aryl-14H-dibenzo[a,j]xanthenes has been achieved through a one-pot condensation of aryl aldehydes and ββ-naphthol under solvent-free conditions in the presence of Sulfonic acid functionalized silica (SiO2-Pr- SO3H), as an efficient heterogeneous solid acid catalyst with excellent yields and short reaction time.
► Sulfonic acid functionalized silica (SiO2-Pr-SO3H) is an efficient heterogeneous solid acid catalyst in the Synthesis of Dibenzo-xanthenes.
► The attractive features of this protocol are simple procedure, short reaction time, high yields, and simple workup.
► The reusability of catalyst and non-chromatographic purification of products, i.e., simple recrystallization from ethyl acetate is so important.
► This reaction is a green, one-pot synthesis.
