• Moment resistance increased with increasing sinus degree of the beam.
• The ductility of a joint decreased with the increasing degree of sinus.
• The maximum rotation has the highest value for sinusoidal 70° model beams.
• The rotation capability of sinus beams are greater than IPE160.
• The rotation plastic flexural resistance of the models are greater than IPE beams.
Using high-strength steel with reduced weight in buildings and industry is important because, as the weight of the buildings is reduced, the behavior of steel in various situations becomes important. In this study, moment–rotation curves of sinusoidal beams were investigated using fixed end-plate connections. Use of a new sinusoidal beam model is proposed. Results were compared with experiments performed not only with IPE profile but also with similar manufactured profile. In the result, weight was reduced for sinusoidal 70° beams, showing improvements in terms of moment resistance.
