Integrating emergy into LCA: Potential added value and lingering obstacles

► Emergy Synthesis and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) share many methodological similarities. ► We provide a discussion of both methods' historical backgrounds, and of their complementarity. ► We argue that Emergy could be integrated in LCA as a further impact assessment method. ► We also present and discuss the lingering obstacles to such integration.
