► We established the ontogenetic pathways that result in Ficus diclinous flowers. ► Pistillate flower results of stamen absence from inception. ► Staminate flower results of pistil absence from inception or by abortion. ► The development of staminate and neutral flowers is similar. ► It is noteworthy the sepaloid perianth, and the tubular developing gynoecium.
