Integrating multi-source forest inventory and animal survey data to assess nationwide distribution and habitat correlates of the Siberian flying squirrel

► We examined distribution and habitat correlates of the flying squirrel in Finland. ► Flying squirrel was mostly found in central-western Finland. ► Occurrence was strongly related to amount of mature spruce dominated forests. ► The species utilizes fragmented landscape mosaics with adequate quality habitat. ► Preserving mature spruce dominated patches will benefit the species.
