► Expected effects of disturbance on disease depend upon host and pathogen ecology. ► We examined effects of wildfire and host behavior on infection by an amphibian pathogen. ► Use of terrestrial habitats and recently burned forest reduced probability of infection. ► Conditions in burned forests may limit pathogen growth and increase host immunity. ► Natural disturbances can modify host-pathogen interactions and may facilitate resistance.
