Factors affecting post-release dispersal, mortality, and territory settlement of endangered kokako translocated from two distinct song neighborhoods

► We tracked 20 endangered kokako following a translocation employing playback to reduce dispersal. ► Dispersal was less than predicted by a “random walk” model. ► Birds did not discriminate between neighborhood-specific song playback following release. ► Habitat use was based on suitability not availability. ► Successful pair formation was not specific to vocal origin.
