► We survey fallow plots for stone curlews for their benefits to wider biodiversity. ► Several taxa are more abundant, frequent, or species-rich on plots than in the crop. ► For notable arable plants, plots perform comparably with plant-specific AES options. ► Carabid beetles show few differences between plots and the crop.
