Epifaunal and algal assemblages associated with the native Chondrus crispus (Stackhouse) and the non-native Grateloupia turuturu (Yamada) in eastern Long Island Sound

► The red alga G. turuturu is a recent invader to Long Island Sound. ► Assemblages were compared between the native C. crispus and G. turuturu. ► Communities dominated by G. turuturu had less algal biomass. ► G. turuturu habitat greatly reduced invertebrate richness and abundance.
