In this work, a dual-hop cooperative system with conditional decode-and-forward (DF) scheme over Nakagami-m fading channels is studied. The considered system consists of a Source–Destination (S–D) pair and a relay node (R). R adopts conditional DF relaying scheme to decide whether to aid S–D pair's information transmission or not, under which R employs the signal-to-noise ratio of S–D link as an indication of the need of the cooperation aid. The outage performance has been investigated over Nakagami-m fading channels for integer values of m, as well as the symbol error performance of multiple phase shift keying and multiple quadrature amplitude modulations. The closed-form analytical expressions for outage probability and average symbol error rate have been derived and verified by Monte-Carlo simulations. Simulation and numerical results match very well with each other, which indicates that our proposed analytical models can well predict the outage and symbol error performance of the target conditional DF relaying schemes over Nakagami-m fading channels.
