Expression of genes encoding xyloglucan endotransglycosylase/hydrolase in 'Saijo' persimmon fruit during softening after deastringency treatment

► Relationships between persimmon fruit softening and xyloglucan endotransglycosylase/hydrolase (XTH) gene expression were investigated. ► Fruit softening after de-astringency treatment showed gradual and rapid changes. ► Rapid fruit softening corresponded to ethylene-dependent DkXTH1 expression. ► DkXTH2 expression was related to both gradual and rapid softening.
