A portable, cost effective, pass-through system to detect downstream migrating salmonids marked with 12 mm passive integrated transponder tags

We developed and tested an efficient, portable, cost effective, pass-through system to detect downstream migrating salmonids marked with 12 mm passive integrated transponder (PIT) tags. The design combines two established technologies, one for the capture of downstream migrating salmonid (the rotary screw trap), and one for fish detection (12 mm PIT tag technology). Detection rates were 100% for PIT-tagged fish passed through separately, and 95% for PIT-tagged fish passed through in pairs.
