Effects of mitomycin C and colchicine on toxin production and cell cycle regulation in the dinoflagellate Alexandrium tamarense

▶ Mitomycin C arrested Alexandrium tamarense in S phase. ▶ Mitomycin C treated-cells in S phase produced paralytic shellfish toxins. ▶ Micro molar level of colchicine did not arrest cell cycle. ▶ High concentration of colchicine prolonged G1 phase. ▶ Cells in prolonged G1 phase did not produce toxins.
