Automorphy of Symm5(GL(2))Symm5(GL(2)) and base change

We prove that for any Hecke eigenform f   of level 1 (i.e., an eigenform on the complex upper-half plane with respect to SL2(Z)SL2(Z)) and arbitrary weight there is a self-dual cuspidal automorphic form π   of GL6(AQ)GL6(AQ) corresponding to Symm5(f)Symm5(f), i.e., such that the system of Galois representations attached to π agrees with the 5-th symmetric power of the one attached to f.We also improve the base change result that we obtained in a previous work: for any newform f, and any totally real number field F (no extra assumptions on f or F  ), we prove the existence of base change relative to the extension F/QF/Q.Finally, we combine the previous results to deduce that base change also holds for Symm5(f)Symm5(f): for any Hecke eigenform f of level 1 and any totally real number field F  , the automorphic form corresponding to Symm5(f)Symm5(f) can be base changed to F.

RésuméOn démontre que pour tout forme propre de Hecke f de niveau 1 et poids quelconque il existe un forme automorphe cuspidale autoduale π   de GL6(AQ)GL6(AQ) qui correspond à Symm5(f)Symm5(f), c'est-à-dire que le système de représentations galoisiennes attachées à π coïncide avec la puissance symmétrique 5-ème de celui attaché à f.On obtient aussi un amélioration du résultat de changement de base qu'on avait demontré dans un article antérieur : pour toute forme nouvelle f et tout corps de nombres F totalement réel (aucune hypothèse sur f et F  ) on démontre l'existence de changement de base pour l'extension F/QF/Q.Pour conclure, on combine ces résultats pour démontrer quel changement de base est aussi vrai pour Symm5(f)Symm5(f) : pour toute forme propre de Hecke f de niveau 1 et tout corps de nombres totalement réel F   la forme automorphe correspondant à Symm5(f)Symm5(f) admet un changement de base à F.
