Synthesis of chemical and electrochemical 'off-on-off' fluorescent switches of new 5H-benzo[b]carbazole-6,11-dione derivatives

Synthesis of a new series of compounds belonging to the 5H-benzo[b]carbazole-6,11-dione family was accomplished employing a nucleophilic amino addition reaction followed by the Suzuki coupling reaction. The structures of the synthesized compounds were confirmed by FT-IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and Mass spectral analysis. The synthesized compounds were proved to be good molecular switches exhibiting chemical and electrochemical fluorescent switching properties by UV-vis, photoluminescence (PL), and cyclic voltagram (CV) studies.
