TCP/IP inefficiencies, coupled with the effects of WLAN latency and loss of packets can adversely affect application performance. These defects increase the response time of applications and significantly degrade the bandwidth efficiency. This paper therefore seeks to address the effect of network latency on WLAN communication systems. It studies an existing IEEE 802.11 WLAN system to assert its performance and exploits important system parameters such as packet-length and response time to build an optimized model that tackles the optimization problem as a linear programming problem. Specifically, we minimize the system utilization capacity under some performance constraints, and simulate the model using the MATrix LABoratory programming tool-kit. Results obtained show that our model could reduce network latency, as well as provide optimum arrival rate adaptation.
