A critical review of the franchisee model in the electricity distribution sector in India

Under government ownership, the electricity distribution sector in India is facing a huge financial crisis. The distribution franchisee model has been introduced in urban areas as a means of enabling private sector participation without abandoning government ownership. A critical analysis of this DF model suggests some avenues for future modifications.
