Equalizer order estimation based on results of the whitening procedure

The equalizer order is one of the most important parameter that has influence on effectiveness of intersymbol interference reduction. The paper presents possibility, how to use whitening filtering results to equalizer order estimation. Lack of knowledge about the channel characteristics (except the channel order and noise) is assumed. Presented approach can be applied in both classical and blind equalization procedures.
