► We examine the impact of stock market system reform on IPO under-pricing in China. ► Two alternative proxies are developed to measure underwriter reputation. ► Underwriter reputation has a negative role on under-pricing after IPO system reform. ► The stock market reform helps reduce the magnitude of IPO under-pricing.
