Structure and expression of glutathione S-transferase genes from the midgut of the Common cutworm, Spodoptera litura (Noctuidae) and their response to xenobiotic compounds and bacteria

► Five GST genes were identified from Spodoptera litura and their gene structure was analyzed. ► Developmental expression patterns of these eight SlGSTs were various. ► Expression of the genes can be induced by either chlorpyrifos or xanthotoxin. ► Increased levels of oxidative stress result in high levels of SlGSTs expression.
