► The pH had a notable effect on the structure and composition of titanate nanotubes. ► The pH influenced the state and redox property of cerium oxides indirectly. ► The residual sodium (TNTs-12) was harmful to the activity of ceria. ► Component water in the interlayer (TNTs-7) was beneficial to the stability of nanotube structure.
