Measurement of cation binding to immobilized vanillin by isothermal calorimetry

Isothermal calorimetry was used to evaluate energetics of adsorption of divalent cations on silica-vanillin (SilVan) at 25 °C and pH 6.0. Interactions between the Lewis-acidic cations and the donor atom attached to SilVan are reflected by ΔmonHm values in the order Ni2+ > Cu2+ > Zn2+ ≅ Co2+.
