Influence of microstructure on wear behaviour of uncoated WC tools in turning of Alloy 718 and Waspaloy

► The life-time controlling factor for the tool wear is notch wear when having large grain size. ► The notch wear is primarily caused by seizure and pullout of tool material. ► The sideflow causing seizure and pullout of tool material is affected by anisotropic material properties. ► The governing factor for sideflow effect is the relationship between the grain size of the work material and the undeformed chip thickness.
