Tribological testing of some potential PVD and CVD coatings for steel wire drawing dies

- As-deposited coatings should be post-treated by e.g. polishing.
- Polished coatings show lower friction coefficient and material pick-up tendency.
- Lubricant significantly reduces friction coefficient and material pick-up tendency.
- CrC/C, TiC and TiC/CrC/C are recommended to be evaluated in wire drawing field tests.
