The paper presents tribological properties of steel elements with two-component surface layers consisting of two different materials placed side by side. Tribological tests of such layers were realized in the system roller (specimen)–fixed block (counter-specimen) in lubricated contact. The best results has been achieved using silver wire as the modifying material (elimination of seizure, decrease in wear by 90% and decrease in friction coefficient by 34%). Advantageous results have been also achieved using copper wire as the modifying material (increase in friction distance to seizure by 518%, decrease in wear by 80% and decrease in friction coefficient by 17%).
Research highlights▶ Steel–silver and C45 steel–copper layers caused increase in seizure resistance. ▶ Steel–silver and C45 steel–copper layers caused decrease in tribological wear. ▶ Fully formulated oil should be used as a lubricating agent. ▶ Machining parameters of two-component layers also influence tribological properties
