PEO layers obtained from mixed aluminate-phosphate baths on Ti-6Al-4V: Dry sliding behaviour and influence of a PTFE topcoat

▶ PEO coatings produced on Ti-6Al-4V using an aluminate-rich and a phosphate-rich electrolyte. ▶ PTFE topcoat sprayed onto PEO films produced in the phosphate-rich electrolyte. ▶ Dry sliding behaviour of PEO coatings evaluated and related to microstructural and mechanical features. ▶ Wear resistance mainly influenced by coating thickness and uniformity. ▶ Deposition of PTFE beneficial in terms of friction and wear resistance in an intermediate load range.
