Understanding species persistence for defining conservation actions: A management landscape for jaguars in the Atlantic Forest

► We analyzed the factors that affect jaguar persistence in the Atlantic Forest. ► Two dimensions defined by management criteria were used for habitat modeling. ► Only 8% of the Upper Paraná Atlantic Forest constitutes core areas for jaguars. ► Reduction of human persecution is needed to enlarge the core areas. ► Better land-cover conditions are also needed for the connectivity among populations.
