Genetic census reveals increased but uneven growth of a critically endangered mountain gorilla population

► Results from the 2010 gorilla census using genetic analyses of fecal samples. ► Genetic analyses improved the accuracy of the population estimate. ► Population was estimated to be 480 individuals. ► Population has increased by 26% since 2003 (an annual rate of 3.7%). ► Nearly all increase is due to relatively higher growth rate for habituated groups.
