Birds as mediators of passive restoration during early post-fire recovery

► Standing burned trees and shrubs were used as perches by frugivorous birds. ► Perch effect increased seed arrival into burned communities. ► The maintenance of standing woody vegetation favored passive restoration of burned areas. ► Post-fire logging could limit early recovery of forests of northwestern Patagonia.
