Investigation on heavy crude-water two phase flow and related flow characteristics

► Heavy crude oil-water flows are compared with a model oil with the same viscosity. ► Flow patterns are identified through local sampling and monitored online pressure drop. ► A similarity is characterized as water segregation from the dispersion with velocity increases. ► Differences are owed to the natural surfactants which maintain the stability of water drops in oil.
