Comparative study by PEPT and DEM for flow and mixing in a ploughshare mixer

► PEPT and DEM showed similar flow patterns with two loops of circulation. ► Bed angle of repose predicted by DEM was too shallow due to use of spheres. ► PEPT was unable to resolve the dilute cloud of material thrown by the plough. ► Good agreement was found for mixing efficiency - increasing with plough speed.
