Spray roasting of iron chloride FeCl2: laboratory scale experiments and a model for numerical simulation

► Spray roasting of iron chloride was investigated experimentally and numerically. ► We found the surface properties changing with increasing reaction progress. ► The experimental results were used to derive a numerical model. ► Particle formation and chemical reaction are included in the model. ► The model leads to better understanding of large scale spray roasting facilities.
