The work goes on to demonstrate that in comparison to the conventional aircraft, any economic benefits that may be accrued from improvement in fuel consumption through such a technology, may well be negated through increases in acquisition price and maintenance costs. The work further demonstrates that if policy makers want to direct the industry towards greener propulsion solutions, then an increase in CO2 emission taxation may be appropriate.
