An experimental study of the hydraulic free piston engine

► A prototype of hydraulic free piston engine is developed. ► Stable running of the prototype is realized. ► Detailed studying of an experiment of the prototype is presented and analyzed. ► The piston dynamics, combustion process and the hydraulic characteristics are verified by experiments. ► The indicated thermal efficiency and the indicated mean effective pressure have been obtained by the experiments.
