Hyperbaric oxygen therapy ameliorates pathophysiology in an AD mouse model. Old 3xTg-AD and non-transgenic mice were exposed to 14 consecutive days of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) (60 minutes daily breathing 100% oxygen at 2 atmospheres absolute) followed by behavioral, histological and biochemical analyses. HBOT improved behavioral performances of old 3xTg mice. HBOT reduced hypoxia (elevates the partial pressure of oxygen pO2), amyloid burden and tau phosphorylation (phospho-tau) in old 3xTg mice. Furthermore, HBOT reduced astrogliosis, microgliosis and the secretion of proinflammatory cytokines (IL-1β, TNF-α) and increased the expression of scavenger receptor A, arginase 1 and antiinflammatory cytokines (IL-4, IL-10). The work demonstrate that HBOT reduces neuroinflammation and improves behavioral performances of the 3xTg-AD mice. Parameters going up (green arrows). Parameters going down (red arrows).166
