Safety countermeasures and crash reduction in New York City-Experience and lessons learned

► We evaluate the effectiveness of 13 safety countermeasures in New York City. ► All pedestrian phase and increasing pedestrian crossing time reduce pedestrian crashes. ► Signal installation reduces total and multiple-vehicle crashes. ► Road diets have significant safety benefits. ► Speed humps and speed limit reduction are not effective in reducing crashes.
