Microwave-assisted modification on montmorillonite with ester-containing Gemini surfactant and its adsorption behavior for triclosan

- New type of cationic ester-containing Gemini surfactant was developed to modify MMT.
- The saturated intercalation amount of Gemini surfactant was 0.8 times than CEC of MMT.
- They bound in the ways of the intercalation, intercalation-adsorption or adsorption.
- Langmuir isothermal adsorption model was better to fit the adsorption behavior.
- The theoretical maximum adsorption capacity of EMMT was up to 133 mg/g.
